“One Thousand Three hundred elders from the local community are honoured by Durban Women “

Months of preparation and weeks of meetings culminated into an amazing and explosive morning where the elderly in our community were honoured by various Ladies groups at the NMJ Hall in Hendry Road, Durban on Wednesday 17 April 2019.

One thousand three hundred elders were transported by private taxis, buses and many generous people dropping off the old and the frail at the NMJ Hall on Wednesday last week.

More often than not, our respected elders are the forgotten members of our community, however this was their day to shine. Decadent treats and morning tea was provided, thereafter the elderly were offered free hearing and optometry tests and pressure screening.

A dietician was also available to offer her valuable advice on correct eating habits. A scrumptious lunch topped off with dessert was then served.

This noble project was a joint effort between various women’s organisations in Durban viz.  IMA Baytul Nur, Jamatun Nisa, World Memon organisation, Women’s Cultural Group, Coca (circle of care org), North Beach ladies volunteer group, Mothers of Mercy, Sisterz 2gether, Kzn Hospital Ladies group, Helping Hands, Kenilworth Respite Centre, Al Imdaad Foundation and Sanzaf

The Elderly were from different religious backgrounds and cultures, and there were various speakers to entertain and motivate all the guests that were present.

The various ladies organisations expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all their generous donors and sponsors and volunteers without whom this occasion would not have been possible.
