Aon and Studyportals to provide Insurance for International Students Across Europe

New student insurance program for more than 52 million students

South Africa,  6 September 2022 –Aon plc(NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm, and Studyportals, a global study choice platform, today announced their initiative to offer international student Insurance to visitors across the world, with free access to personalised advice and guidance from Aon. Over 52 million students a year use Studyportals to find and compare study abroad opportunities at more than 3,750 educational institutions, across 110 countries. 

Aon International Student Insurance is designed specifically for the needs of students studying and interning abroad. It offers worldwide coverage through an online platform, as well as multilingual customer service. The program is accepted by hundreds of universities and is fully compliant with Schengen visa regulations for the Erasmus+ Exchange Program and Internships abroad.

The program will be available to students in 29 countries across the European Economic Area* as well as Switzerland and Turkey. In 2023, Aon and Studyportals plan to make the service available to students traveling to the United States and the United Kingdom, and in 2024 for students traveling to Canada, Australia and South Africa.

Studyportals CEO Edwin van Rest said, “As a trend accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, students increasingly choose and prepare their international educational plans online. Most of our innovation is focused on supporting students throughout their full decision-making journey, as our average enrolment is active with us for 372 days. Getting the right insurance advice for their personal needs is a strong complement to our service offering.”

“Many students may find it challenging to select the most appropriate insurance and also may not take the time to do to research needed to find the most appropriate insurance for their situation,” Günther Stalenberg, EMEA Leader for International People Mobility (IPM) at Aon, said. “This may result in students being underinsured and at risk for not being able to complete their studies abroad due to financial issues, creating a stressful situation. Through our initiative with Studyportals, Aon will be able to provide this underserved market with access to information and insights so students can make better decisions that protect their travels.”
