Fidelity Security Services and Fidelity Specialised Unit successfully apprehended two suspects who were holding a member of the public hostage for ransom.

On 28 August at approximately 11:10 Fidelity responded to a call out at the Glen Shopping Centre.

Upon investigation, it was found that a customer in a financial institution was being held hostage by two armed suspects who demanded ransom money of R15 000.00

Charnel Hattingh, group head of marketing & communications says, “Thanks to the vigilance of a bank staff member who noticed that a customer was being held hostage, the security manager was alerted and our officers were called to respond.”
The two suspects were apprehended by the Fidelity ADT and Fidelity Specialised Intervention Unit (SIU). Moffatview SAPS.

Hattingh says the Bank employees’ adherence to security procedures and quick thinking led to the arrest of the suspect. “I commend the employee for thinking quickly and notifying us of this crime. Kidnapping and ransom is a very real issue that we face in South Africa and we are pleased that these brazen criminals are off the streets,” she says.
