Roof robber apprehended in Rustenburg

If you cannot get in the front door, the roof seems to be the other best option.

On 24 August at approximately 20:01 Fidelity ADT apprehended a suspect who was caught attempting to steal a plasma screen from a business in Rustenburg.

Fidelity ADT Reaction officers Marole and Lamola were dispatched to a reported break-in at Nelson Mandela Street in Rustenburg CBD. On arrival, the officers were informed by the business owner that he had seen a suspect on CCTV inside his business. The Fidelity ADT officers proceeded to inspect the property. While inside, they heard footsteps coming from inside the ceiling.

The suspect was ordered to get out of the roof and was immediately apprehended. The officers went inside the ceiling and found the hidden stolen plasma TV. On further investigation, it was found that the suspect gained access through the roof. The suspect was handed over to Rustenburg Police station.

“We urge all business owners to consider installing outdoor detection devices and perimeter security to reduce the chances of criminals reaching the property and gaining access to the roof.”

Another alternative worth looking at is microwave passive infrared detectors which are specifically designed for very hot areas – such as a roof. Normal infra-red detectors are not as effective when installed in extremely hot areas,” concludes xx manager for Fidelity ADT.
