Join the 5km walk to save Kaya’s vision
Submitted by: Agnes MatladiKaya Barker (3) was born with a brainstem malformation, Pontine Tegmental Cap Dysplasia, a condition so rare there are fewer than 100 people with it globally. This impacts every aspect of her life, including hearing, breathing, sleep, and mobility. Another area that is impacted is vision, and without nerve transplant surgery, she will lose her vision.
Her mother, Andrea Barker, grew up in Scottburgh where her family still reside. Andrea now lives with her husband, Davyn, and their two girls in Ireland. In an effort to save Kaya’s vision, the family is calling on locals to join in a #5kforkaya fundraiser walk to raise money for the medical costs and create awareness.
