Fundi celebrates SAPS excellence this National Police Day

South African Police Service (SAPS) members came together across the country last week to celebrate National Police Day. Joining them as a sponsor of three of their key events was a team from Fundi; there to acknowledge and congratulate policemen and women from various regions as part of the organisation’s deep commitment to community enablement and support.

National Police Day has once again provided community members and organisations throughout South Africa with the opportunity to thank and support the policemen and women who protect us so tirelessly.

“Fundi’s relationship with the SAPS is a long and established one,” explains Mala Suriah, Fundi CEO. “It is built on our mutual belief of the importance of education in growing a meaningful vocation, and as a means of making career dreams realities. Since 1996 we have been assisting SAPS members to access new career and growth opportunities through our Fundi offerings, including education funding. To date, we have supported over 1 059 869 police members with loans – with many of these being repeat loans. As such, we have a real vested interest in their collective success, and are here to celebrate this excellence with them!”

With events scheduled around South Africa throughout the week, Fundi has contributed a collective R70 000 towards specific initiatives – with a key focus on education.

The team started their engagement at the Tshwane Police Academy on 15 February 2024 which saw police taken through their paces in various sporting codes and physical activities. Sphiwe Masuku, Fundi’s Marketing Manager, was on hand on the day to help hand out Fundi goodie packs comprising drawstring bags with water bottles and mini first aid kits.

The National Excellence Awards ceremony held on 16 February at Gallagher Estate was supported by Fundi Executive Head of Lending, Mary Maponya and Fundi Marketing Manager, Sphiwe Masuku. “Celebrating excellence is essential for us as Fundi,” notes Maponya. “As an organisation that advocates for excellence, we want to congratulate the dedicated men and women honoured at this event: for their courage, their service and their determination. We’re proud to be contributing to their upward journey paths in some small way through our continued partnership with SAPS members.”

Rebecca Mongale, Fundi’s Regional Business Manager (Pretoria, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga), was also on hand at the Career Day event held in SAPS Academy in Tshwane. Here she offered encouragement and key tips to those wanting to further their careers within the SAPS – directing them to Fundi’s call centre, as well as comprehensive FundiConnect website, which delivers on Fundi’s promise of “all things education”.

“We’re proud to stand alongside the South African Police Service, contributing to the success and impact of their national events,” says Suriah. “Our sponsorship is testament to Fundi's commitment to fostering positive change and supporting initiatives that uplift the communities we serve across the country.”
