Fidelity ADT successfully apprehended two suspects involved in a break-in at a business premises in the Vaal. The incident occurred on 14 November at approximately 22:19.

Three suspects gained unauthorised access to the premises and proceeded to the guard room. They forced open the door and began assaulting one of the guards on duty. Despite the ongoing assault, the second guard managed to activate the panic button, alerting Fidelity ADT to the situation.

Fidelity ADT’s reaction officers arrived on the scene promptly, leading to the arrest of two of the suspects. Unfortunately, one guard was severely injured during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at Emfuleni Hospital.

Charnel Hattingh, Group Head of Marketing for Fidelity ADT, commended the bravery of the guards and the efficiency of the response team. “Our team’s quick response and the courage of the guards on duty ensured that the suspects were apprehended. We are deeply saddened by the injury of the guard and wish him a speedy recovery.” said Hattingh.

Residents need to be vigilant, make sure their CCTV is working and remain vigilant for any suspicious activity. “We recommend at least two staff members must carry hidden panic buttons at all times.

Fidelity recommends that business owners in these high risk areas consult their security providers to do a full risk assessment to ensure the premises and staff are fully protected against this type of crime.

Hattingh concludes by stressing how important it is for people to report all crimes and incidents to the police. “It doesn’t matter what the extent of the damage or loss was, or whether or not you plan to claim from insurance. The SAPS can only build accurate crime trend information if they know exactly what is happening in a suburb or neighbourhood. This also allows all of us in the security and law enforcement sector to better deploy our resources in an effective manner, to better protect home owners and businesses from crime.”
