Unplug Yourself at Comic Con Cape Town: A Journey into Tabletop gaming and more

Unplug Yourself will once again be gracing the halls of Comic Con Cape Town from the 27 April to 1 May 2024. Unplug Yourself has become synonymous with awesome role-playing games, trading card games and tabletop games that break the ice and provide immersive, fun experiences.

Philip Galliford, spokesperson for Unplug Yourself, upholds that Comic Con Cape Town is more than an event, it’s a pilgrimage for fans of comics, movies, gaming, and all things pop culture. “It’s a portal into a world where imagination knows no bounds and where fans gather to celebrate their shared passions. Unplug Yourself is thrilled to be part of Comic Con Cape Town in 2024 as it’s an occasion to reconnect with fans both old and new, and showcase this year’s latest games.”

Amidst the bustle of people dressed in their finest super hero and geek attire, the Unplug Yourself area promises the opportunity to become immersed in a realm where fantasy, play and competitiveness reign supreme.

Unplug Yourself and Play!

Unplug Yourself is a treasure trove for tabletop gamers and those curious about this year’s new launches. Learn to play, demo areas, Catan and Dungeons & Dragons experiences, Pokémon, Magic: the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh! tournaments and much more will be available for all ages and levels.

There will also be miniatures painting and Star Wars Unlimited experiences. Unplug Yourself will also showcase the brand new South African monster for the King of Tokyo board game, the Tokoloshe. Come and learn how to play King of Tokyo and claim your very own Tokoloshe at Comic Con Cape Town.

The tournaments are as follows:

Pokémon – 27th April Magic: The Gathering Standard – 28th April Yu-Gi-Oh! – 1st May

Attendees can also participate in a Catan Button Badge adventure where the aim is to gather your resources, interact with strangers and trade - a type of “in real life” Catan. “The trade culture at Comic Con is huge,” explains Galliford. “You can literally start with a paperclip and end up with a house. The Catan Button Badges are highly sought-after and have become collector’s items. It’s intriguing watching it unfold during the event.”

In an age where technology often dominates our lives, Unplug Yourself offers a refreshing escape into the analog world of storytelling and imagination. It’s a chance to reconnect with the tangible joys of dice, cards, boards, hand-written point systems and engage in face-to-face competition.

Unplug Yourself at Comic Con Cape Town may only last a few days but its impact resonates far beyond the convention centre walls, reminding us of the wonders that await when we dare to unplug and embrace our inner geek.
