Taking advantage of the extended long weekend, visitors from far and wide headed to the sunny coastal town of Amanzimtoti for the 60th edition of the popular Highland Gathering.

On Saturday, 29 April, the town was turned out in tartan as bagpipers, dancers, musicians, and more, brought a taste of Scotland to the KZN South Coast. This annual event, which is supported by Sapphire Coast Tourism and hosted by the Amanzimtoti Lions Club, is an important fundraiser for many local charity initiatives, with this year’s crowds bringing in welcome contributions to these worthwhile causes.

In celebration of the historic 60th year, popular ECR DJ Dave Guselli oversaw the day’s many exciting displays and features, with Durban Tourism providing the Durban Ricksha Bus to give visitors a free hop-on hop-off tour of Amanzimtoti.

The Highland Gathering and long weekend also allowed visitors to explore the Sapphire Coast’s many tourist highlights including recreational beaches, world-renowned dive site, Aliwal Shoal, as well as extensive trails and picnic spots.
