The Sunday Moods Summer Series at Blackwaters River Lodge on the banks of the Goukamma River between Knysna and Sedgefield on the Garden Route will feature Jaco Kriek on saxophone during its 2nd concert in this series, scheduled for the 4th of December.

Besides the luxury 4-star accommodation the idyllic location of the lodge has made it a popular venue for Sunday lunches, weekend weddings but also small group lekgotla’s and team building in a natural, ‘open space’ environment.  “It is heart-warming to see how our local visitors have embraced what we call ‘our place of magic’ over the last couple of years,” says owner and host Elmay Bouwer.  “Our ‘Summer Moods’ concerts fit in with the relaxed, sophisticated yet down-to-earth approach in all we do here at Blackwaters.  We have been fortunate to secure some awesome, mostly acoustic musicians from different parts of the Garden Route and Klein Karoo with Minx Millar on violin as our first soloist earlier this season.” 

Next in line is Jaco Kriek from Oudtshoorn, on saxophone.  Expect jazzy, popular, well-known pieces like Summertime, Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone and Autumn Leaves, but also more classical pieces like Pie Jesu and Halleluja.  When asked, Jaco commented that “being part of nature is a holy experience” and he is looking forward to this performance.  “I love the setting and playing intimately to a crowd with the same love for music and beautiful surroundings”. 

Co-sponsor Ypie Kingma from Destination Garden Route added “this is such a unique setting, and the whole idea of outdoor acoustic concerts is something we see is appreciated by both locals as well as visitors.  We see many of visitors wanting to attend open air concerts like at Kirstenbosch in Cape Town, and hope to grow these performances at Blackwaters into something similar in atmosphere.  We are excited about the calibre of musicians on the Garden Route and thoroughly look forward to showcasing these in the months to come!”

The Summer Moods at Blackwaters feature Calvin Steyn on violin with Sanri Oosthuizen on flute on the 18th of December 2022, with Lani Groves on cello performing on the 8th of January 2023.
