MOVEMENT, the Kloof Street Community Movie is coming to the Labia Theatre!

Submitted by: go somewhere SLOW

What does movement mean to you?

A simple question with a multidimensional answer.

Cape Town’s Ballet on Kloof studio, in partnership with SLOW, is bringing a ballet community movie to life, exploring the layers of the physical and mental benefits of movement.  Set against the backdrop of Kloof Street and its culture, the documentary (see trailer) speaks of the universal language of natural movement and its commonalities connecting us all.

This eye-opening and honest documentary acts as a vehicle for individuals to speak about movement on a personal level.  We hear from industry experts – professional ballet dancers, actors, and medical experts – to ballet students who weigh in on the topic of movement stretching beyond the realm of just ballet.

FEATURING CELEBRITIES AND PERSONALITIES

The documentary features familiar faces such as Ryan de Villiers who starred in the feature film, Moffie, and has won the Fleur du Cap award for best male lead after his dynamic performance as Miss Trunchbill in the award-winning musical, Matilda.

MOVEMENT also features professional ballet dancer, Kyle Andrew Grant, the youngest to choreograph and perform an original piece during the Baxter Dance Festival, and Girl From Nowhere actress, Tamryn Speirs, who shares her personal journey with movement.

Moving naturally is truly universal. The documentary journeys into self-actualisation through the spirit of community to the ultimate realisation… the body never lies.

Seugnet Esterhuyse, owner of the Ballet on Kloof studio that’s been in Cape Town since 2012, says, “Movement is an energy exchange, it is part of life – a necessity – and it brings life, healing, and love to each other and yourself.  After all, like Joseph Pilates said, you are only as young as your spine.”

MOVEMENT will premiere on the 3rd of November at 19h00 at the Labia Theatre.

Tickets are R100 per person (and includes automatic entry into a lucky draw).
