The true season opener is actually a performance by Thembelihle Dunjana doing her New York Début performing at Jazz at Lincoln Center Dizzy's Stage on the 7th of March 2023 thanks to the support of Jazz at Lincoln Center!

Melorie Jane & Malcolm Xorile Jiyane USA Festival performance July 2023 (TBD)

7th Mzantsi Jazz Awards 26th August 2023 at the Gibson Kente Theatre at the Soweto Theatre Precinct.

We are also excited to announce that MJAC has retained the musical direction of none other than the master pianist, composer and musical Director extraordinaire Mdu Mtshali for the next 3 seasons leading to our 10th Anniversary!

"We feel this gives a sense of certainty and help us plan some exciting programmes for our audiences as we go all out to make Jazz Sexy again!" said Dr Mongezi Makhalima, founder of the Mzantsi Jazz Awards!

Mzantsi Jazz Awards

Home of the Mzantsi Jazz Awards, otherwise known as the South African Jazz Awards. The home of Jazz excellence! We love music and we love Mzantsi. We recognize the role of Jazz music as a genre that deserves a special attention in the evolving South African Music industry. The purpose is to celebrate, appreciate and venerate jazz as a musical form that not only entertain but also uplift and heal the artist and the listener alike. How does it work though? Every year musicians, music recording companies. radio stations and clubs as well as jazz venues will nominate themselves to be considered for the MJA.
