For the past three weekends, Tropika made its way around South Africa looking for young fresh talent to join the Tropika Island of Treasure season 10 All-Stars. Targeted were three of the country’s major cities as hosts for this year’s All-star season auditions, which kicked off on the 20th of May 2022 at Canal Walk in Cape Town, followed by Durban on the weekend of the 27th of May and wrapped the last leg of the audition’s roadshow in Johannesburg at Sandton City on the weekend of the 3rd of June.

South African talent from across the spectrum came through in droves to show off their smoooth moves and stunt their personalities. We were excited to see influencer Angela Ndlela from Durban, and Vourné Kgosinkwe from Johannesburg. The excitement was felt
throughout the various audition locations where spectacular mega booths were built and consumers privately recorded their entry videos.

Cheerful song and dance caught the attention of shoppers and by-passers captivated by some of South Africa’s most loved faces. Amazing instant prizes were on offer, hidden under bottle caps where the word “TREASURE” guaranteed an instant prize that could
go as high as R250 000 in value. This was the case for one lucky Tropika product fan, Nicodemus Mampa, a 25-year-old retail worker who won one of the biggest grand prizes, R250 000 worth of Suzuki Products to be used across their showrooms and stores
nationwide. ‘This means a lot to me; a breakthrough I have been praying for’- says Mampa as he plans to start his own dairy business with the help of his great win.

About the winnerPaballo Nicodemus Mampa hails from Limpopo where he grew up with his now 17-year-old sister in Turfloop Polokwane. Life has not always been kind to Nico as he details his challenging and tough upbringing under the sole care of his mother Caroline Mampa which led him to take up the responsibility of being the leading male figure in his household. A bright and driven young man, he did not let life and its hurdles deter him from his dreams even after repeating Grade 9 three times at Nkoshilo high school.
He currently holds a Matric diploma which he plans to further advance and enroll at UNISA to complete his Public Relations degree which he dropped out of precisely 1 year after he registered due to financial constraints. A philanthropist at heart, Nicodemus had a small business whose life span was short-lived after the owner of his business premises committed suicide, an incident that was so traumatic he had no choice but to flee and come to Johannesburg in 2020 in pursuit of greener pastures. Still driven, he now works in retail as a storage packer.

For most, this would not necessarily be deemed as a breakthrough but for Nico, this is where he struck gold and won R250 000 after buying Tropika during his lunch break off the very shelves that he packs. A poetic tale of tragedy to triumph, this story is not over as Mampa has his eyes set on big achievements, one of them being a dairy business owner, a passion he has held on to since looking for his golden pastures. A true full-circle moment!
