Getting fit at Hayfields whilst helping our furry friends!

Summer is fast approaching and what better way in getting into the swing of things is by having some healthy fun and still doing a good deed.

Hayfields Mall and PMB SPCA are joining forces to host the very first 90-minute masterclass featuring Zumba®, Shape, Aerobics and yoga on Saturday, September 24th from 8am – 10:30am.

The 90-minute session will be open to 250 fitness enthusiasts, helping you get your workout on, enjoy some cardiovascular exercise, while raising funds for the local Pietermaritzburg SPCA.

Zumba time is going to show you some new dance moves featuring high - and low-intensity intervals that help all participating to improve cardiovascular fitness while also enhancing balance, coordination, agility, and to some degree, strength through the application of beginner-accessible choreography.

You don't need any special dance skills to succeed in Zumba classes but those that have natural rhythm may pick up on the moves faster. Still, no one is keeping score, so just dance, let go, and have fun.

The shape aerobics session is definitely going to get you amped, this body fitness system that incorporates martial arts techniques, such as kicks and punches, which became popular in the 1990’s and with the motions of martial arts is definitely something to help promote fitness.

And if you have never tried it, we have included yoga which is so good for you as it creates mental clarity and brings about calmness, increases body awareness, relieves chronic stress patterns, relaxes the mind, centres attention and super importantly sharpens concentration.

Apart from the professional fitness demonstrations and activities, PMB SPCA will have a tea-tent featuring loads of delicious eats and treats which both young and old will enjoy as well as kids' entertainment featuring face painting, tombola, a jumping castle and loads more fun.

So, get your entry in now - the bonus is, if you are an early bird, and one of the first 100 to enter, you will be the lucky recipient of a VVIP goody item that we think you’ll really enjoy! Don’t despair; the next 150 entrants will also receive a VIP goody bag.

After all the rigorous early morning activations of moving and grooving, stretching, shedding excess energy and of course having worked up a healthy appetite, grab a bite to eat from places like Wimpy, Ma Baker, The Curry Pot and Friends Café.

Sesethu Senene, the Hayfields Mall Marketing Manager said, “We are looking forward to hosting this first ever event at Hayfields, which is perfectly located to host such a fun event for a heartwarming cause and the opportunity for folks now to “Spring themselves ready for Fitness”. Our Centre offers a unique vibe, in a controlled environment for such a worthwhile deserving cause that offers a fresh and welcoming atmosphere. We look forward to welcoming all our customers and their families and friends to play a part in celebrating healthy living and, at the same time give back to the unsung heroes at the SPCA who look after our “furry friends” with a safe haven that have been injured, abandoned or abused. All proceeds will go to the PMB SPCA she added!

Sandy from PMB SPCA, shared, “The SPCA is often the only form of help that poorer people have when the animals they keep for companionship, food, and transport need assistance. The various branches of the SPCA in South Africa receive no money from central government and rely on donations and support from their communities and constant fundraising to keep their doors open whilst serving all living creatures, including pets, livestock, wildlife, birds, fish and reptiles”.

To participate in this worthy cause is just R100, and for those who just pop-in and support those who are participating on the day, your kind contribution is just R50.

Tickets are available now from quicket.co.za and if you have any questions, contact Sandy on This email address is being protected from spambots.
