Submitted by: Ian Dickinson

HOUT BAY, WESTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA, 19 June 2013: This weekend the Bay Harbour Sound Stage at the Bay Harbour Market, Hout Bay comes alive with the talents of the post-grunge-rock band Woodstock Mafia; four-piece swing, jazz, folky bluesy band Cardigan Buzz; and the one-man-band, Peter Wyness specialising in intricate folk vocal and guitar styles.

Bay Harbour Sound Stage at the Bay Harbour Market, Hout Bay is a popular platform for the country’s most exciting musical talents to showcase their abilities. Join us at the market this weekend for an eclectic mix of rock, jazz, blues and everything in-between.

Friday Night LIVE! 21 June – Woodstock Mafia
Kick off the weekend at the Bay Harbour Sound Stage with self-professed post-grunge-rock band Woodstock Mafia.  Woodstock Mafia has brought their infectious sound to venues across Cape Town, gathering a steady following of dedicated fans. Their songs provide a combination of high energy guitar riffs, melodic vocals and an occasional thumping rhythm. Their music is reminiscent of international acts such as Foo Fighters and Wolfmother, yet akin to local acts like Taxi Violence and Van Coke Kartel.

Saturday 22 June – Cardigan Buzz
Saturday 22 June brings a performance by jazz band, Cardigan Buzz. This four piece swing, jazz, folky bluesy brand band began back in 2006. Alex (keyboard/accordion) and Pete (hung, cajon) were soon joined by Andrew (guitar) bringing in the element of classical guitar. Callan (bass), Bruce (saxophone) and Caely (vocals) joined the band soon after and they did a road trip up to Knysna for the Gastronomic Festival and a Raw Food event. Most well-known is their flagship reworking of Tom Waits’ Chocolate Jesus, and Meaning of You, an original which got radio play on Bush Radio, and Fine Music Radio.

Sunday 23 June – Peter Wyness
Performing live on Sunday 23 June on the Bay Harbour Sound Stage is ‘one man band’ Peter Wyness. Peter worked the hotel circuit for many years specialising in more intricate folk vocal and guitar styles while also crossing over to blues and light jazz influences. He is the only one man band of his kind in South Africa, providing a fresh approach to the term ‘unplugged’. Peter plays everything from the guitar and blues harp to brush peddle drums and finger maracas.
