Celebrate the Month of Love with Angel Rose at Bay Harbour Market

Submitted by: Ian Dickinson

HOUT BAY, WESTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA, 12 FEBRUARY 2013: Head to the harbour and celebrate the month of love with world-class music and an unbeatable vibe.

Bay Harbour audiences are in for a treat on Friday February 15th when New York based vocalist, composer, arranger, actress and dancer Angel Rose returns to the Bay Harbour Sound Stage. Legendary director, Michael Bennett recognized Angel's talent and requested that she join the national company of his highly acclaimed production "Dreamgirls." As lead understudy, Angel Rose contributed greatly to the historic tour of this classic, with venues in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and of course, Broadway in New York City. A milestone in Angel's career was her association with industry great, Bruce Springsteen, where she was selected to join his camp for Springsteen's 1993 MTV special and international tour.

Rose's additional concert credentials include Bon Jovi, Jerry Lee Lewis, Lionel Richie, and Mary J. Blige.

Getting the vibe going before Angle Rose takes to the stage is 6-piece jazz ensemble Bamboo Pavilion. This Cape Town band plays a variety of instrumental standards with a strong bebop flavour, taking the audience through a diverse jazz repertoire from lesser known gems to well composed originals.

The horn section is made up of Doug Armstrong on Trumpet and Flugelhorn and John Thorne on Tenor Sax, accompanied by a rhythm section consisting of Paul Stein on keyboards, Michael Kuhnert on guitar, Richard Weissenberg on bass, and Simon Annet on drums.

The Bay Harbour Sound Stage comes alive on Saturday, February 16th with the unmistakable, percussive sounds of Tombstone Pete. Formerly of Australian percussive acoustic guitar duo, The Codebreakers, Tombstone Pete created his attention-grabbing approach to percussive acoustic playing while busking throughout Australia, New Zealand and the UK. He blends the acoustic styles of players such as Erik Mongrain, Andy McKee and Rodrigo y Gabriella with the raw energy of hard rock outfits like Rage Against the Machine, Tool and Incubus to create a high energy acoustic guitar performance which sets him apart from his contemporaries.

Ending the weekend off on Sunday, February 17th is talented a cappella trio Zion3. Hailing from Mitchell’s Plain, the group consists of Bradley van der Zandt and cousins Dillon Powell and Tashwin Manuel. With influences ranging from John Legend and Michael Bublé to Boys 2 Men and Chris Brown, the trio has performed at numerous weddings, parties and corporate functions and regularly sing at the Grace Ministries International Church in Mitchell’s Plain.

In addition to the fantastic music, head to the harbour in the month of love and treat your loved one to scrumptious seafood, superb sparkling wine and deliciously decadent chocolate. With the ocean only a stone’s throw away, the seafood at the market couldn’t be fresher and the surrounding Cape Winelands supply the stalls with some of the finest Methode Cap Classique in the world – it’s the perfect way to spoil someone special!
