The Intelligent Entertainment Ecosystem

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 18 June, 2015 – At the Gartner Symposium1 in October 2014, the analyst firm placed the expanded computing environment as one of the leading trends for 2015. Samsung has already tapped into this trend, crafting the perfect ecosystem with its next-generation smart televisions.

“Samsung has been at the forefront of innovation and development within the television industry for the past nine years,” says Matthew Thackrah, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Consumer Electronics at Samsung Electronics SA. “The seamless blend of cutting edge design and functionality has evolved from our brand’s commitment to its customers and their ever evolving needs,” says Thackrah.

At the recently held CES 2015 conference, Samsung showcased the evolution of UHD into SUHD, a technology that produces incredible images with brighter displays and colours. The era of SUHD stands for Sensational Picture, Seamless Interaction and Stylish Design – all of which contributes to an enhanced viewing experience.

The SUHD display is manufactured based on Samsung’s proprietary nano-crystal technology and results in a picture that is two and a half times brighter than the conventional TV, with deeper blacks and superb contrasts. Not only does it bring great picture and sound quality into the home, it is also the epitome of the connected ecosystem - a smart solution that displays beauty and intelligence.

The powerful software that drives the functionality of the Samsung Smart TV ecosystem is the Tizen Operating System. It’s fast, intuitive and easy to use. Designed by Samsung, Tizen grants the user access to a wealth of entertainment, information, data and media. It is capable of delivering content across a multitude of devices and provides access to content across an integrated system.

The Tizen Operating System has also been designed on an open source platform, allowing for easy app development and implementation from third-party providers and assuring the consumer of an increasingly wide array of solutions that can further enhance how they interact with their Smart devices. Samsung has already formed alliances with eNCA, SuperSport, OnTV, VIDI and Aflix to ensure sport, video-on-demand and news are conveniently accessible.

Samsung mobile devices also sync with time, weather and programme schedules. Tizen can be installed on home appliances, harnessing the power of the Internet of Things (loT) to connect all devices and create a harmonious space that becomes the control centre for the home owner.

According to Thackrah, the SUHD TV forms part of the overall range of Samsung’s Smart TVs and therefore also includes a Smart Hub, which provides easy access to content, enabling users to see what information they accessed, tailor their content recommendations and follow the recently redesigned user interface with ease. Responsive and capable of multiple screen interactions, the latest in Smart TV from Samsung is eloquent and capable.

“At Samsung we have recognised the consumer’s need for control and an improved viewing experience. We continuously strive to ensure that our next-generation televisions are embedded into our customers’ homes and lifestyles, bringing functionality that is required and features that are desired,” concludes Thackrah.
