Bon Courage wins Top South African Producer Trophy at 2023 Michelangelo Awards

The wine estate that helped put Robertson Valley on the map as one of South Africa’s premium wine-growing regions, Bon Courage, has won yet another accolade for its consistently high-quality wines.

The 2023 Michelangelo Grand Prix Trophy for Top South African Producer was bestowed on Bon Courage Estate from Robertson. This esteemed award crowns Bon Courage as Michelangelo’s top-performing South African champion, a testament to their commitment to excellence and the artistry of winemaking. The winery also walked away with the prestigious FlySafair Rosé Trophy for Bon Courage The Lady of the House Pinotage Rosé 2023.

In addition to the two sought-after trophies, Bon Courage won two of only 21 platinum medals (96 or higher points out of 100) for their White Muscadel 2023 and their Like Father Like Son Chenin Blanc 2023, a double gold (93 or higher points out of 100) for their Chardonnay Prestige Cuveé 2022 and four gold medals (89 or higher points out of 100).

The 27th Michelangelo Awards attracted 1 555 entries, judged by an esteemed panel from around the world. Bon Courage’s magnificent showing at this year’s competition is not just a win for this winery, but a resounding triumph that echoes through vineyards and cellars, celebrating the dedication, passion and ingenuity that define Bon Courage.

A tribute to all the courageous women of South Africa

Bon Courage’s wines are grown, made and bottled on their third-generation estate in Robertson. Although tradition plays a big role, careful modernisation allows them to combine the best of traditional and modern methods, resulting in greater freedom and flexibility to craft high-quality wines.

The award-winning Lady of the House Pinotage Rosé 2023 is a good example. The Pinotage Rosé is a tribute to all the courageous women of South Africa, inspired by Ouma Maude, the lady of the estate who was famous for her garden.

Selling at R88 (cellar price), the Pinotage Rosé’s floral notes, strawberry hints, a subtle rose petal undertone and a lingering aftertaste of candy floss promise to live up to expectations. Previous vintages of The Lady of the House Pinotage Rosé also took home double gold in the National Wine Challenge, the Rosé Rocks competition and the Ultra Wine Challenge. Bon Courage wines can be bought nationwide.
