Polish your own diamond: The Shimansky diamond experience at the Rockwell

On Thursday, 27 October 2022, Shimansky officially re-opened the doors of its Rockwell Showroom in Green Point, Cape Town, where bookings can now be made for a unique diamond and jewellery experience like no other.

By appointment only, the public is invited for an exclusive jewellery tour that will change the way they think about diamonds forever – a hands-on experience, live jewellery manufacturing and diamond polishing (booking in advance is essential), where you can experience the transformation of one of South Africa’s most precious resources – from raw to finish.

"Polishing a diamond is a really unique and special experience," says Yair Shimansky. According to him, polishing something that has been around for three and a half billion years, facet by facet, and making it look brilliant is an experience unlike any other.

He continues, saying that just as one needs to maximise one's own potential, he aims to maximise the potential of diamonds, from rough to polished.

"Everyone is a diamond in the rough, and through life, you are becoming the best version of yourself. Once you are really polished, you will shine on others and keep on being brilliant." – Yair Shimansky.

This unique experience will allow you to venture into the secret world of diamonds and promises to change your life.

“Given the severe hardship caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown the revival of a business-like Shimansky – itself a casualty of the economic slowdown - is deeply encouraging. It is a sign that economic recovery in the Western Cape is making steady progress. The fact that the business – an important feature of Cape Town and the province’s tourist offerings – is back on its feet speaks to the tenacity and determination of our private sector to bring back hope to our economy. Shimansky’s Diamond Experience return to the Mother City’s entrepreneurial and tourist landscape is an inspiration to us all”, said Premier Alan Winde at the reopening of the Shimansky Diamond Experience.

The ribbon cutting and reopening of this City jewel included the Provincial Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities, Mireille Wenger, who celebrated the bounce-back in tourism in the Western Cape, noting that Cape Town International Airport is expected to welcome 191 international flights per week from January 2023. She also mentioned that a priority of the Western Cape Government would be to ensure that the province is ready for this bumper season, with a focus on skills, access, destination marketing and tourism safety.

Exclusive Shimansky jewellery designs are destined to become a milestone for your special moments. A constant reminder of the love and care you share with that special person in your life or a gift to yourself – because you're worth it.

Your visit to South Africa will not be complete unless you visit the Shimansky Diamond Experience and Showroom. Come and learn more about the history of diamonds, and how it changed the world from 1870, when the diamond rush started, to today, right here in South Africa, the birthplace of the world's most famous diamonds.
