Sebokeng, GP – Any really meaningful relationship must have a moment where one party looks at the other and thinks:  “i appreciate you.”

Phleezy captures that moment with melancholic, expertly-produced alternative-rock instruments layered on trap drums in the first part of the creative's single, “Masashi Kishomoto/ForTheCoolKids”.

Introduced by an eight-bar combination of chords and keys, the track immediately launches into an ambient soundscape of electric guitars, driven by melodic, acoustic chords that undergird a rainy day kind of feel to a peak before the second part of the song comes in.

“When I was writing this song, it was intended to be an Interlude,” explains vocalist Phleezy. “Its a dedication to Masashi Kishomoto, creator of Naruto.”

The second part takes on a more sunny beach day, almost childlike feel, with harmonized “hmms” creating smooth texture before culminating in a stop before the chorus following in on the upbeat, with the lyrics following the quick-hitting rhythm of the 808 drums.

“Thought you knew this, do this for the cool kids

And we stupid, know I had to chew this, mmmh yum yum..”

Altogether, it’s high quality, well crafted stuff – further proof of the creative's abilities, he doesn't hesitate to occupy a very large part of the spectrum, as he changes the mood of the song from rainy to sunny effortlessly. This is viewed as a recognition of something deeper, too.

“There's a big difference between doing what you want to do on a beat and, doing what the beat wants you to do,” says Phleezy. “Like, the beat be telling you what to do, while you really not tryna hear what the beat is saying. It's like a whole communication thing.”

Fittingly, “Masashi Kishomoto/ForTheCoolKids” showcases those multiple dimensions of Phleezy; it compellingly captures the dynamic range he's able to tap into as a producer, engineer, songwriter, vocalist and rapper.

Written and recorded in Steel Park, the song was produced by Phleezy, and Lifah Kalifah. Listen, stream, and share below.
