The Building Better Businesses Symposium 2022 is in motion

12 April 2022, Johannesburg, South Africa - The Townships Project is excited to announce The Building Better Businesses symposium for 2022 will be taking place on the 5th and 6th May 2022. “The challenges and opportunities in the post-COVID-19 world has given us renewed energy and purpose to support township and rural entrepreneurs. Our symposium this year is bigger and better than ever. Our projection is to host approximately 2000 small business owners from all across South Africa for an informative, inspiring symposium.” –Judith Chinkumbi, Chairperson of The Townships Project

The Townships Project (TTP) is an organisation that aims to empower small business entrepreneurs based in townships across South Africa by providing them with the necessary skills to sustain and grow their businesses. For over twenty years, TTP has been providing the business community with much needed actionable advice on business development, especially for the township and rural-based entrepreneurs.

With this symposium, The Townships Project aims to reaffirm its commitment to empowering township and rural businesses across South Africa. We aim to provide entrepreneurs with the necessary skills to thrive in the business world. We recognize that small businesses are the heartbeat of South Africa’s economy. When we empower small businesses, we give them the necessary tools for growth and sustainability. We propel them to continue being key contributors to socio-economic development in our society.

The bedrock for the 2022 Building Better Businesses symposium is relatability. The symposium is our core intervention for the township and rural businesses. This is why we want it to resonate with the township and rural businesses as much as possible. We have meticulously planned this year’s symposium to be relevant to the trajectories faced by township and rural businesses. We have crafted the symposium in a way that speaks to real-life challenges small business owners encounter in their day-to-day interactions. The speakers for the symposium include Boitumelo Moche, an MBA graduate, business owner and project management specialist. Pamphilia Hlapa, a seasoned marketing expert, life and business coach and author, as well as Rotary District 9400 Governor, Dr Stella Anyangwe who is best known for being the first black female South African to become District Governor and sponsor of the symposium. It is evident that speakers for the symposium are not just seasoned experts in their respective fields, they also have an understanding of township trajectories and economies.

We are honoured and proud to announce that we are receiving support from Liberty, Rotary Means Business, Shantui Solutions and MyPheli Mag. These organisations beautifully mirror the like-mindedness of the Township Project in empowering and enriching township businesses. So in addition to the stellar two-day programme, in collaboration with all the sponsors, there are prizes worth R500,000 that include visibility through a dedicated PR campaign. to be won at the symposium. Without our sponsors, we would simply not be able to commit to pulling off an amazing symposium

We invite the South African community at large to be a part of this ground breaking event!
