ImageQunu, the Jabber/XMPP-based expert-matching service recently launched to a worldwide audience, is now also available in Afrikaans.
Thanks to FEBDEV's Dorette Steenkamp, who volunteered the translation, Afrikaans became the 8th language after English, German, Russian, Dutch, Spanish, French and Slovak, enabling those more comfortable in their own 'taal' to use the free Qunu service at http://alpha.qunu.com "Qunu being of South African origin, it was only a matter of time before it became available in Afrikaans", says Mowbray-born co-founder Murray Gray, "but we didn't expect it to be this fast. Dorette has done an amazing job, but thanks also go to Gillian Engelbrecht, who helped us out on a number of occasions.""We'd love to have support for other local languages, too", adds Helmar Rudolph, who is spear-heading the local operation. "We've made a nifty online tool available at http://www.qunu.com/translations ,where provisions have already been made for Zulu, Xhosa, Tsonga, Ndebele, Nothern Sotho, Southern Sotho and Tswana. We want everybody to be able to use Qunu, no matter where or how, and for this local language support is paramount."The service launched its alpha trial phase in early June this year. It has since gathered close to 2000 experts from all over the world, with almost 10.000 help sessions being volunteered.About QunuQunu is a Web 2.0 expert matching service that allows users with (currently) technology-related questions to connect in realtime with passionate experts.
