MAXI’S DOMINATES IN FASA FRANCHISING WEEK

Written by
{pp}Running a franchise is hard work and requires a lot of time and dedication which is mostly spent training staff members, delivering great customer service, building new outlets and constantly striving for excellence in standards and products. For all those hard hours spent Franchise Association South Africa (FASA) in return pays tribute to these hard working men and women that run their franchises.

FASA represents franchisors, franchisees and the professional organisations that service the franchise industry. As the only recognised representative body of the rapidly growing franchise industry, FASA’s aim is to ensure that its members practice ethical franchising and that it continues to develop and expand the business environment for franchising in South Africa.

FASA calendar events that have definitely been the highlight of 2009, were the FASA Awards and International Franchise Expo (IFE) in which Maxi’s Restaurants have participated in last week. Maxi’s won silver for their outstanding stand at the IFE. “In the past 12 months, Maxi’s has become a unique and competitive brand due to a repositioned growth strategy and an above-the-line marketing campaign.

The brand’s awareness has grown amongst key stakeholders including entrepreneurs, potential franchisees, consumers, landlords and developers,” says Amy Menzies, Senior Brand Manager of Maxi’s. The FASA Awards for Excellence in Franchising, held annually since 1990, remains a highlight of the year’s calendar and brings together the association’s members and their guests in honouring the top achievers in the field of ethical franchising and business practices.

Five categories of franchising were honoured in which Maxi’s was one of the finalists in the Brand Builder and Franchisor of the Year categories. In the Franchisor of the Year category Maxi’s was one of 4 finalists and in Brand Builder of the Year one of 3 finalists. Maxi’s did not win on the evening but being a finalist is a huge honour and success for the brand as they were up against larger and more established brands. All the categories reflect the diversity of franchising and allow all sectors of the franchise industry to participate.

The awards give franchisors, like Maxi’s the opportunity to network in a social atmosphere whilst celebrating the success of their business strategies. Christo Calitz Managing Director of Maxi’s was inducted into FASA's Hall of Fame last week. As a past winner of Personality of the Year in 2002, FASA inducted Christo into the franchise industry's Hall of Fame, as a form of acknowledgment of his continued efforts and contribution to franchising.
“This is a very exciting moment for me and to be a part of the FASA Hall of Fame is a great honour for me and Maxi’s. The Maxi’s brand is visibly growing in every sense of the word and is mainly due to the positive driving force from the head office staff and especially the influence, positive attitude and determination of all our franchisees”, says Christo Calitz, Managing Director of Maxi’s.

Maxi's is a family restaurant that serves a wide range of tasty and wholesome meals, focusing on breakfast, lunch and early dinner. Combined with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, they deliver outstanding, freshly prepared foods of the best quality.
