GaySA Radio is proud to announce that it will be the 2016 broadcast sponsor for Pretoria LGBTI Pride to be held on 1 October 2016.
GaySA Radio is the new LGBTI voice in South Africa, broadcasting online at http://gaysaradio.ndstream.net. It started broadcasting in October of 2015 and added presenters and content from February 2016. Currently in test phase, the station is growing by leaps and bounds. It currently has more than 30 volunteer staff, broadcasting from its studio in Pretoria.
Pretoria LGBTI Pride is celebrating its fourth year and is becoming one of the premier pride events on the South African Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Intersex (LGBTI) events calendar. From its modest inception a few years ago, this event has grown in size and last year attracted in the region of 7,000 participants to the annual event held in Centurion.
The theme for Pretoria LGBTI Pride 2016 is Raise Your Flag and during the parade GaySA Radio will formally raise its flag as the only LGBTI broadcaster not only in South Africa, but also on the continent of Africa.
As part of its sponsorship of this event, valued at R 250,000, GaySA Radio will present a weekly feature on Pretoria LGBTI Pride during the daily Eggs and Sausage Show. It will run advertising for the Pride event and all its pre-pride activities. Various people involved in the organisation of the event will be interviewed on a regular basis, as well as providing listeners with updates and news concerning Pretoria LGBTI Pride. This will happen via the online station, as well as on the GaySA Radio website and all its social media platforms.
The GaySA Radio Team will host a live broadcast during the Pride event day and will have a float in the parade, as well as handing out promotional material to people attending the event.
Hendrik Baird, the Operations Manager of GaySA Radio, says they are excited to take part in an event of this nature. “GaySA Radio wants to partner with successful LGBTI events of this nature not only to show our support”, he says, “but to actively combat homophobia by bringing LGBTI issues into the mainstream. By supporting Pretoria LGBTI Pride we feel we are making a contribution to a culture of tolerance and understanding.”
Bruce Walker, the organizer of Pretoria LGBTI Pride, stated: “This year we will be having a lots of shaded areas and a food area as well as bigger bars and a bigger flea market and community area, so bring blankets and chairs so you can enjoy the whole day. We want as many people to be on the parade with a cash prize to the best outfits and floats. We will be bringing you a whole day of entertainment and the biggest ever after party to hit Pretoria. Let us unite in unity this year and grow a stronger community. This event is for everyone and everyone is welcome. “
Pretoria LGBTI Pride takes place at the Centurion Rugby Club on 1 October 2016. Entry is free to the public. Club House seats are R 100 per person. LGBTI people are encouraged to bring family and friends to join the joyous parade with its colourful floats.
