Mining magnate Patrice Motsepe and business woman, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, gave a substantial donation to St Augustine College in Johannesburg, as part of their contribution to assisting young South Africans become leaders in the world of business, social development and education this past week.

In a ceremony held at the private university on Tuesday, 4th September 2012, St Augustine's library was renamed in honour of the couple's contribution as the Patrice Motsepe and Precious Moloi-Motsepe Library. Dr Moloi-Motsepe, together with Mr Andre Wilkins from ARM Mine (Patrice Motsepe is the Executive Chairman of the mine), then turned the first sod on the site where the new library extension will be built. The donation will be used to finance the extension.

"We are honoured that Patrice and Precious have decided to invest in St Augustine through this donation," says Dr Maria Frahm-Arp, Registrar for St Augustine. "Like us, they are committed to helping our youth become world changers through high quality education."

St Augustine College has been operating for 12 years and offers undergraduate degrees in Commerce, the Humanities and Theology as well as postgraduate degrees. The university boasts an 80% pass rate and provides a firm foundation for students to make a success of their careers in contemporary South Africa.

"Through donations such as that received by the Motsepe's we are able to continue to offer small class teaching, individual attention and a high level of academic stretch at prices comparable to State Universities," says  Dr Michael van Heerden the President of St Augustine.

"In addition, we are able to offer bursaries to those who are less fortunate. One of our success stories on this front is a former student, who used to live on the street, but after qualifying for a bursary at our institution, went on to get a BCom (PPE) degree and found employment."
