Amazing Home Grown Talent At Bay Harbour Market

Submitted by: Ian Dickinson

For delicious food, fantastic arts and crafts, fab fashion, divine décor and fresh SA music, make sure you head to the Bay Harbour Market this weekend.

Taking to the Brampton Sound Stage on August 31st for Friday Nite LIVE! is internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter and guitarist Nick Turner backed by his talented band. Nick Turner was a founding member of Sons of Trout in the late 1990s, and later one half of Mikanic, with fellow Trout violinist Mike Rennie. Nick's music effortlessly spans genres, with influences ranging from rock, reggae and African to hip-hop, ghoema and jazz. Lyrically powerful, relevant, humorous and energetic, his music has a wide appeal, with shows that feature virtuosic musicianship, funky grooves and catchy tunes. He'll be jamming in the Nick Turner Trio on Friday along with bassist extraordinaire Schalk Joubert and SA music legend Ash Read on drums.

Entertaining audiences on Saturday September 1st from 13:00 to 15:30 is unique jazz-fusion band Abbott Nu Jazz. Created by SAMA-nominated artist Guillaume de Villiers, this outfit is bound to wow audiences as they cross and blend genres with a creative use of contemporary technology. Abbott Nu Jazz makes use of live stage looping and masterful improvisation to create their distinctive sound.

Ending the weekend off on September 2 is a double bill featuring Jenie Oliver's Pop Choir and singer/songwriter Dave Knowles. Jenie Oliver formed the pop choir in 2011 and it is made up of people from different ages and backgrounds who all share a common love for singing. The up and coming pop choir has a number of shows lined up for the coming months. They'll be taking to the stage at 10:30 for a 45-minute set.

David Knowles is a talented indie blues maestro. Having spent some time in the UK developing his sound, David infuses a percussive edge to his acoustic guitar playing that is truly unique. In a style which often tends towards instrumentalism, he moves from high falsettos to bluesy growls with melodies that transcend and bind their underlying guitar work. Dave will be doing his thing on the Brampton Sound Stage from 11:30 on Sunday morning.

In addition to awesome live music, arts, crafts, fashion, decor and delicious cuisine, Bay Harbour is also hosting a monthly comedy showcase on the first Wednesday of each month. The line-up for the 5th September 2012 features Martin Davis (UK) hosting support acts Carl Weber and Anne Hirsch and the headliner is one of Cape Town's best established comedians – Stuart Taylor. Tickets are on sale now online at www.quicket.co.za – the inaugural show was sold out, so make sure you get your tickets early!
