The popular Edu-Fair and Community project held at ML Sultan St Mary’s Primary School over the weekend of 23-24 August, included a full programme of activities as it sought to raise funds for upgrades and improvements as part of the school’s sustainable development project. The jam-packed weekend included an assortment of exciting performances, a variety of food and recreational stalls and a chance to socialise with fellow community members from the neighbourhood.

Career guidance stalls and educational displays from Engen, the UKZN Astronomy Department, Umgeni Water, DSW Recycling, amongst others, provided invaluable insights and information on career options for aspirant leaners and the opportunity to engage with different businesses and organisations.

Learners also enjoyed a full programme of educational performances, including ADT crime awareness, Ningizulu Special School Marimba Band, Schools Talent Search, and a flash mob by City Celebrations “Our annual Edu-Fair and Community project raises much needed funds for our school and this year we hope to raise enough funds to install smart interactive boards in at least 10 classrooms,” says ML Sultan St Mary’s Primary School Principal Ramdheen.

“As a school, we constantly strive to provide the best quality education to all our learners, while the Fair also helps raise much-needed funds for families unable to pay their school fees.”Engen’s head of Transformation and Stakeholder Engagement, Unathi Magida says it is important for Engen to partner with and provide support to communities in which the company operates.“We are proud to support and help sustain educational projects in the Merebank and Wentworth areas, which service the surrounding communities close to our Refinery,” comments Magida.

Adds Principal Ramdheen: “We are grateful to Engen for being a partner in our annual Edu-Fair event and assisting us in our drive to provide our teachers with innovative smart boards. This will help ensure that we can offer quality education to our learners.”
