CAPE TOWN, South Africa, October 25, 2017/APO Group/ -- The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Nomvula Mokonyane will officially launch the Greater Mbizana Water Scheme on Thursday, 26th October 2017 at Mount Zion Sports Ground, Bizana, as part of the government’s centenary celebrations to honour the late OR Tambo. The late ANC stalwart was born in Nkantolo village, Bizana, and grew up there before he went abroad to establish the ANC Mission in Exile in 1962.

On Thursday Minister Mokonyane will be joined by the Executive Mayor of Alfred Nzo, Cllr Sixolile Mehlomakhulu, to visit the multi-million rand Ludeke Dam which is expected to supply potable water to more than 800 000 villagers of Matatiele, Mbizana, Ntabankulu and Umzimvubu, residing in about178 347 households. The scheme will address water challenges in the villages by increasing the capacity of the water treatment works and improving the bulk water distribution in the area.

A pump station was also built to pump water from the Ludeke Dam through the existing main pump to Nomlacu Water Treatment Works for the benefit of the villagers.
