2022 Last Man Standing season kicked off with a bang! A weekend to remember for Joburgers

The first event of 2022 Last Man Standing season kicked off on a high note at the Marks Park Sports Club in Emmarentia.

Fitness enthusiasts graced the sports ground to showcase their fitness skills – agility, speed, power, balance and coordination were dominating the three arenas as athletes battled to the podium. Family and friends were also the theme for the three-day long event as they came in numbers to support the athletes while enjoying the food, drinks, music and body massages offered by the vendors.

“The event was one of its kind. We are always looking at ways to improve on each and every event, so it was great to see a large number of people coming through to support the athletes and just have fun and enjoying the weekend at Last Man Standing,” said Robert Walker, director and founder of Last Man Standing.

The functional fitness event attracted more than 3000 spectators, while contestants who signed up were close to 600-across various categories, in team and individual competition competed in divisions of difficulty from master, elite, intermediate and beginner. More than 30 volunteers also assisted across the weekend fulfilling roles including judging, scoring and undertaking arena management.

Five workouts for individuals and five for teams categories took the centre stage in the three arenas, which were sponsored by Rebel Elite Fitness, Grenade and Heineken. Athletes had a warm-up area which was sponsored by Versus socks.

“This season of Last Man Standing is honoured to host athletes and judges as young as 16 and 17-years-old. It’s great to see young people get involved in events of this nature for their health and well-being benefits,” said Walker.

Despite the change in weather on the last day of the event, athletes were still eager to continue to battle to the podium, however the event had to be cut short mid-finals for the safety of athletes, spectators and officials.

Winners of the first event of the season have been announced on Last Man Standing social media platforms.

“It’s unfortunate that we had to cut the event short as the weather took a turn for the worse. However, the safety of the athletes, spectators and officials is our primary concern. The results were finalised based on the final workout of each division, be it in the finals or the general workout,” said Walker. “We would like to congratulate all the winners and we look forward to the next event in September which will be held in Pretoria.”
