Submitted by: Gerrit Davids

The inaugural Sports Business Week (SBW) will be held as an online event from 24-28 August 2020, featuring daily summits, to debate the future outlook of the industry as well as assessing the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, which also brought the world of sport to stand still.

SBW will feature close to 50 of South Africa’s leading sports business’ personalities sharing their thought leadership on how the industry should, put in place, the most sustainable strategies required, for its future survival.

Each daily Summit, will also feature an Awards programme to bestow recognition on sports business’ leaders, service providers and brands respectively for their endeavours in this vibrant industry.

SBW will kick-off with its flag ship event, the Sports Business Leadership Summit and Awards on Monday 24 August 2020.

The Pro Sports Summit and Awards is slated for Tuesday 25 August 2020 and it will feature roundtable discussions with the sector’s leading executives, discussing the best strategies required to lead their respective organisations in uncharted waters, as a result of Covid-19.

An exciting Summit focusing on Sports Marketing and Fans will be held on Wednesday 27 August 2020 and it will also feature an awards ceremony for the best marketing and fan engagement campaigns over the last year.

The 9th edition of the Sponsorship Summit will take place on Thursday 27 August 2020 and it will also include an awards ceremony for the most admired sport brands in South Africa.

The Women in Sports Business Summit and Awards will conclude the Week on Friday 28 August 2020, and in celebration of Women’s Month, no male speakers will feature on any of the panel discussions, scheduled for the day.

According to Gerrit Davids, MD, Gerom Media Sport & Entertainment, “The Sports Business Week will be broadcast online, in its entirety, with each Summit lasting an hour, featuring a guest interview, two panel discussions, and end off with an awards ceremony.

Davids says, “With the lockdown having forced public events on the back burner, the organisers also had no choice but to pivot the Week, which was planned for as a public event, to move it entirely online and adapt it, to the new normal.”
