Twogether and Instorage

{pp}Twogether - 6 Feb to 3 March 2007, downstairs at 34 Long.

The mix of artists on 34 Long’s present show, Twogether, has proved popular and so its run has been extended, with some exciting variations.
Several works - among them some by Robert Hodgins, William Kentridge and Paul du Toit - have left the gallery, and have been replaced with new ones. Works by Marlene Dumas and Matthew Hindley have also been added as well as a limited number of editioned prints by Takashi Murakami. If you were not quick enough last year, be sure to come along to view the new ones. First come, first served. Also just landed is a fresh shipment of merchandise from the Kaikai Kiki studio: plush toys, books, badges, stickers and more, some of which sold out within minutes at last year’s Murakami opening. These are available in the gallery, while stock lasts.

34 Long welcomes Adrian Köhler, a young Cape Town artist-designer to its walls. Adrian’s sculpture has met with success in both the art and the design worlds; Twogether… will feature some of his recent paintings. His small, framed images are based on official photographic portraits and deal with masculine identity by subtly distorting aspects of self-presentation. There will also be exciting work by new kid on the block,  Asha Zero. Something fresh and inspiring to explore and perhaps add to your collection of old favourites!

There will be no evening opening to this show. Viewing times are Tuesdays to Fridays, 9h00 to 17h00 and Saturdays 10h00 to 14h00.

INSTORAGE - 6 Feb to 3 March 2007, upstairs at 34 Long.

The gallery space at 34 Long was originally a shop; in the cavernous interior behind it is an all but hidden store room, filled with artworks seldom seen. These will be brought to light, so to speak, in the upstairs gallery from 6 February to 3 March 2007. Store rooms are often filled to capacity, and this one is no exception, so come prepared to experience storage as presentation: in no particular order, more works than hanging space permits. You are sure to find a special piece among the jumble!
