StateoftheART relocates to the 'fringe' precinct of the Cape Town CBD.

After four years at 61 Shortmarket Street, StateoftheART Gallery has relocated to 50 Buitenkant Street in Cape Town's trendy Fringe district of the city centre. "It's not in the central or 'downtown' precinct of the city but we're in close proximity to The Book Lounge, The District 6 Museum, and The Fugard Theatre amongst other noteable establishments. There are exciting developments underway in this part of the city; it's still easy to reach on foot, and is on the First Thursdays map - so the new space ticked all the right boxes" said director Jennifer Reynolds."Whilst we had tremendous success in Shortmarket Street and built a following of wonderful collectors - many of them international clients - our customer base has grown significantly since 2013 and we now require a larger venue that is more conducive to art appreciation, and which allows us more flexibility in our mission to be South Africa's leading e-commerce gallery".

StateoftheART has distinguished itself through its hybrid approach; exhibiting works both online and offline through a physical gallery, the purpose of which is to offer buyers the opportunity to view the quality of available artwork and give them peace of mind when investing online. "We encourage art lovers to research and follow an artist online through our website before deciding on that perfect piece. We also provide a certificate of authenticity with each newly purchased work."

StateoftheART affords visitors to the site the opportunity to discover and buy affordable fine art that would not otherwise be readily found. Having a large range of artists available at your fingertips makes uncovering new artists easier. By being able to browse through an artist's collection of available and sold work online you can get a sense of their entire body of work as opposed to only being able to see one or two examples in a physical art gallery. The gallery offers a diverse selection of thoughtfully curated original art and limited edition prints by South African artists which can be searched using filters by size, medium, style, subject, artist and price; and the site gives the buyer the opportunity to read about each artist and browse themed collections aimed at assisting in the journey of discovery.

StateoftheART officially reopened on the 7th of September with 'UNTITLED:SPRING' - a group exhibition of painting, photography and drawing by Chris Denovan, Jeannie Kinsler, Miranda Crooks, Lezanne Kotze, Pascale Chandler, Grace Kotze, Lisette Forsyth, Kendall-Leigh Nash and Janet Botes. "Spring and 'springtime' refer not only to the season, but to ideas of rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, resurrection and regrowth. UNTITLED:SPRING marks the 'rebirth' of our gallery at 50 Buitenkant Street, in the East City precinct of the Cape Town CBD" - Jennifer Reynolds.

StateoftheART Gallery

Established in 2010 and a pioneer in the online art market in South Africa, StateoftheART re-imagines the brick-and-mortar art gallery experience for the digital age, differentiating itself through full transparency and accessibility. Our pricing structure is clear and straightforward with the majority of the proceeds from a sale being returned to the artist who created the work. Importantly, our pricing is very competitive, leaving no room to incentivise buyers with discounts. The StateoftheART Gallery Award, a not-for-profit initiative, was founded by the gallery in 2018 to promote artists who have yet to establish a profile on the contemporary South African art scene - so when you buy art from StateoftheART you’re directly supporting artists.
