Submitted by: Jennifer

StateoftheArt Online Gallery presents 'Contrapposto' a 3D interactive Group Exhibition curated by Bongani Njalo available to view online until the 24th of June at www.StateoftheArt.co.za.

Log on to the website, take a tour (best viewed in full screen mode) then wander around the gallery at your leisure from the comfort of your armchair.

Featured artists: Sophie Peters, Ronald Muchatuta, Kerry de Bruyn, Lisette Forsyth, Bettie Coetzee-Lamprecht, Urban Ranger, Bronwyn Horn, Joanne Reen, Hanneke Boomker, Roscoe Reid Masters, Dave Robertson and Yolanda van der Mescht.

Contrapposto is an exhibition forged in celebration of human form - the way in which artists look at, depict and present it in different settings, either in its immediate environment or (visually) altered spaces. The exhibition also aims to highlight the physical relationship to the landscape and cityscape that we share. We have always had a relationship with our surroundings, either shaping it for our comfort (often with catastrophic results) or adapting our lifestyles to suit our environmental needs. Contrapposto is therefore a desire to address our understanding and appreciation of human form within the landscape, the formal qualities and the artist’s grappling with attaining this aesthetic balance through depiction.

StateoftheART Gallery

Established in 2010 and a pioneer in the online art market in South Africa, StateoftheART re-imagines the brick-and-mortar art gallery experience for the digital age, differentiating itself through full transparency and accessibility. Our pricing structure is clear and straightforward with the majority of the proceeds from a sale being returned to the artist who created the work. Importantly, our pricing is very competitive, leaving no room to incentivise buyers with discounts. The StateoftheART Gallery Award, a not-for-profit initiative, was founded by the gallery in 2018 to promote artists who have yet to establish a profile on the contemporary South African art scene - so when you buy art from StateoftheART you’re directly supporting artists.
