ContiTech Africa expands automotive belt range to meet aftermarket requirements
  • ContiTech capable of supplying most automotive belts for Africa’s aftermarket
  • All aftermarket products built to OEM requirements and quality – warranty in place
  • Leading position with automotive OEMs provides platform for replacement business

Johannesburg, February 2018. ContiTech Africa has extended its range of automotive belts for the South African (and certain sub-Saharan countries) aftermarkets with the goal of supplying the majority of the automotive aftermarket belting requirements. This service is the result of ContiTech Africa updating its catalogue to include belts of most vehicles in these regions that fall within the aftermarket segment.

Every single automotive fan, Poly-V and timing belt is manufactured to OEM quality standards, with all fan belts and the majority of the Poly-V belts manufactured in ContiTech’s ISO 9001:2000-, ISO 14000- and SHAS ISO 18000-certified production facility in Uitenhage.  Additional Poly-V belts for the South African market are manufactured at Continental ContiTech’s ISO/TS 16949-accredited facility in Kranj, Slovenia, while all timing belts are manufactured at ContiTech’s ISO/TS 16949-, ISO 14001-, ISO 50001- and ISO 9001-certified plant in Hannover, Germany.

“We have updated our car parc to include most vehicles in the replacement market,” says Paul van Zyl, Operations Manager – Industrial Fluid Systems & Power Transmission Group, ContiTech Africa. “The current car parc is close to 6.5 million vehicles, and this number should increase as each year passes.”

Van Zyl points out that Continental has a large percentage of the European market share, which it has achieved by working closely with OEMs to develop automotive belts when they develop new cars. “It is from this development-type work from which our slogan ‘Developed with the OE for the Aftermarket’ was borne,” van Zyl points out. “Our parent company’s involvement at that level ensures that all ContiTech products developed for the aftermarket are of the same quality standard as those manufactured for the new vehicle industry.”

“This, and the fact that we receive unbelievable support from Europe and have access to all technologies and products from ContiTech in Germany, gives us a competitive edge. We can guarantee that every single ContiTech belt and ram aftermarket belt meets the exact specifications of the original,” van Zyl says, “and every single one is guaranteed for the same duration as the original belt.” He adds that while they are premium products, they do provide more than fair value as the highest quality belting products in the market.

‘Developed with the OEM for the aftermarket’ means that ContiTech complies with all OE requirements and specifications and goes the extra mile, something which is evidenced by the company’s timing belt kits, as one example. By beginning the process with the original manufacturer while keeping those vehicles’ future replacement markets in mind, means ContiTech is ideally positioned to comprehensively service the aftermarket.

Emphasising the quality standards adhered to, van Zyl says that ContiTech sell hundreds of thousands of products, each of which adheres to exact OEM specification. This statement on product quality is corroborated by the fact that every single ContiTech timing belt worldwide is machine tested before continuing for distribution. “Something that not many automotive aftermarket production specialists can claim.” He adds that ContiTech Germany has a full time quality project team at the highest level of the organisation, with their only focus being quality. “This proves that ContiTech is truly striving to be the best automotive aftermarket manufacturer and supplier worldwide.”

Delivery of belts from ContiTech Africa can be turned around with 24 to 72 hours of an order being received, depending on delivery location. This turnaround time combined with the fill rate goal of 98% positions the company as a preferred supplier in the automotive aftermarket industry. “We continue to update our catalogue – it is a work in progress,” van Zyl says in conclusion, “and our short-term aim is to ensure that ContiTech Africa can comprehensively cover at least 95% of all vehicles in the South African and sub-Saharan African automotive aftermarkets.”

ContiTech South Africa’s ranges of automotive belts are available from leading aftermarket distributors in South Africa and a number of sub-Saharan Africa countries.
