South Africa’s hot diva duo Laurie Levine and Josie Field are teaming up on the Bay Harbour Sound Stage for a stellar performance for Friday Nite LIVE! On Saturday Grassy Spark performs their blend of ska, rock and reggae sounds and on Sunday Bay Harbour Market presents collaborative instrumental band We Set Sail.

Friday Nite LIVE! 22 November – Laurie Levine and Josie Field

Paired to ignite the Bay Harbour Sound Stage for Friday Nite LIVE! are the two electrifying divas Laurie Levine and Josie Field.

Levine’s talent lies in her ability to draw on the deep roots of folk music and combine it with a myriad of other influences, including sounds from America’s Appalachia region and her native South African roots. Using an acoustic guitar as her main instrument, and her poetic lyrics, Levine invites listeners into an intimate world of her emotions.

SAMA Award-winning Josie Field’s signature sound is a potent mix of lyricism and fire, heartfelt issues and tender constructions. Her guitar-driven songs combine elements of pop, blues, folk, country and rock to produce a unique and authentic musical flavour. Josie has released three albums, shared the stage with renowned international artists like James Blunt, and enjoyed airplay on radio stations across the country.

This collaboration on the Bay Harbour Sound Stage is one you don’t want to miss!

Saturday 23 November - Grassy Spark    

Grassy Spark is a collection of musicians with a passion for groove. The band plays their up-beat music on the Bay Harbour Sound Stage on Sunday, 23 November. They blend ska with rock, funk, reggae and latin, all uniting to form a unique sound that is fuelled by the love they have for music and the diversity of tastes and culture that ‘cooks’ in the Mother City.  Band members include Yanick Bathfield (Guitar and Vocals), Josh Riley (Guitar and Vocals), Nick Hurworth (Keys and Sax), Matt Hurworth (Trumpet) Kevin Kok (Bass), Lawrence Jaeger (Drums), and Murray Buitendag (Trombone).

In less than a year of being in the music industry, Grassy Spark has played at a number of venues across South Africa and even managed to record and release their debut offering “The Virtual Kids” on the 21st September from their bedrooms! This band, fresh out the blocks, seeks to inject new life into the once-mighty South African Ska scene.

Sunday 24 November – We Set Sail

On Sunday, catch the dynamic performance by collaborative band We Set Sail. We Set Sail began by forming a band consisting of other bands; a band with no strict directions but a few hints from Marné’s acoustic guitar, inviting input from every other member. With an off-the-cuff attitude and an urgency to bring all sorts of emotions to the fore, the band follows one rule - the music must be instrumental and be able to speak for itself.

The songs tell stories, yet bear no words, instead conveying emotions purely by the agreement of the instruments at play. The music is of a cinematic character, sometimes frail and delicate, and at other times urgent and explosive, creating a wide emotional spectrum. The band's members and their instruments amalgamate in an organic ebb and flow typical of the band's collaborative nature.

Bay Harbour Market is open from 5 pm to 9 pm for Friday Nite LIVE! from 10.30 am to 6 pm on Saturday and 9.30 am to 4 pm on Sunday. Entrance is free.
