John Ellis Hits the Stage at Bay Harbour Market

Submitted by: Ian Dickinson

Music-lovers head to Bay Harbour Market this weekend for politically-charged folk rock, lively blues, and classic flamenco guitar.

Fresh off his tour with Johnny Clegg, accomplished singer/songwriter John Ellis hits the stage on October 19 for Friday Nite LIVE! The Durban muso is best known as the talented guitarist and vocalist for internationally acclaimed band Tree63. Having enjoyed success with the band in America, John returned to SA to pursue a solo career. Catch him on Friday night along with Johnny Clegg drummer and percussionist extraordinaire Barry van Zyl, where they'll be playing tracks from John's recently launched acoustic album 'Rural'.

Taking to the stage on Saturday, October 20 is acclaimed blues-rock guitarist Johnny Ray and his band. With his rough voice and strong guitar-playing skills Johnny Ray's lively Blues-Rock style is suited for a party of any kind. From slow ballads like "Wonderful Tonight", to pop, and old-school rock songs like Black Sabbath's "Paranoid", he is sure to get the audience singing along. Johnny incorporates an element of comedy into his performances as well, making him an all-round entertainer who is as comfortable on a stage at a rock festival as he is at a five-star restaurant. With a huge array of festivals, rallies, residencies and private and corporate gigs under his belt, Johnny Ray is a highly experienced musician.

Ending the weekend off with some superb classical/flamenco guitar compositions is talented musician Alex Baker. Alex began his musical career at the young age of 12 and has spent many years moving through a variety of different styles and genres. His experience has culminated in a unique blend of classical, flamenco and rock technique combined with an expressive style that captures passion and emotion. In addition to original compositions, Alex also performs standard classical compositions, and continues to work on improving his ability as a classical and flamenco guitarist. Alex teamed up with a singer earlier this year who will join him on stage to add another exciting element to his already impressive repertoire.

As well as awesome live music, arts, crafts, fashion, decor and delicious cuisine, Bay Harbour is also hosting a monthly comedy showcase on the first Wednesday of each month. The line-up for the 7th November 2012 features host Tracy Klass, Peter Sserwanga and Marcel Oudejans.
