Horrorwood III - Brightwater Commons Halloween Event 2012

Submitted by: Sarann Buckby

Gauteng is gearing up for Halloween and Brightwater Commons is hosting one of the biggest events the province has to offer on Wednesday, the 31st October from 4pm to 9pm.

Gauteng's biggest, scariest and most impressive affair, Halloween at Brightwater Commons never fails with ten's of thousands of people arriving in their most creative and gruesome gear.

Even shop windows get a charged makeover at the centre as retailers adorn their stores with spiders webs, smoke machines, witches and all manner of fanciful embellishments.

Harmless fun for kiddies

If you are looking for the ideal spot to take your children to trick or treat, arm them with the biggest bag you can and take them to Brightwater Commons from 16:00.  Retailers will be ready and waiting with treats in hand and a smile to share.  Halloween fun for the kids has been taking place at the centre for more than 14 years.

The 'House of Horror' will be a ghost house filled with fun and doors open from 17:00 in the promotions court.  A huge success with patrons two years ago, this adventure for the kids will make their day! Entrance to this part of the event will cost R5.

At 18:00 the Halloween adventure for young-ones culminates in the hair-raising 'Snakebite Jones' snake show.  This is an interactive and educational show featuring snakes, frogs, Iguanas and lizards, the act will surely not disappoint!

Fancy Dress competition

The 3rd Annual Toomie awards will see the most impressive costumes win the prestigious 'Toomie' in different age categories.  In 2011, the top award went to mom, dad and kids who each dressed as members of the Adams family! The baby of the group was not left out- he was presented in his nappy and deathly full-body makeup! For those entering, their creativity is put to the test - the competition is frightful, but the prizes will be awesome!

'I am challenging the public to come and outdo what was done last year.  I saw a couple of teenagers with flawless make-up from head to toe. They had created a body-length zipper, making it look as though one could reach out and unzip their skin! Gruesome, but awesome!', says Francois du Buisson, Marketing Manager of Brightwater Commons.

Mentalist show by Gilan Gork

Once the judging of the Toomie awards ends at 20:00, the night will reach its climax when Gilan Gork, the 'master mentalist' will demonstrate in his typically entertaining way the astounding feats he can achieve through the power of his mind.  He will also engage with volunteers to read their minds, so come prepared with your trickiest thoughts for this one!
The entry fee for this event, called Horrorwood III, will be R30 per car and R10 per pedestrian. This payment will be made at the boom gate before entering the Brightwater Commons.
