Entries for the Western Cape's second-biggest road cycling event, Die Burger Cycle Tour are now open

Submitted by: Corlia Goosen

Die Burger Cycle Tour is set to take place on Sunday 2 December and will again start and finish at the Stellenbosch High School in Jannasch Street just off Merriman Street. The event features a 92km route for experienced cyclists, and a 44km route that is ideal for novice cyclists.

The 92km route is also the final seeding opportunity for the 2013 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour, taking place on Sunday 10 March 2013.

"Take part in Die Burger Cycle Tour and support a good cause," says Bun Booyens, editor of Die Burger. "Since this popular cycle tour with a beautiful route takes place just before the festive season, we decided to link it to Die Burger-Kersfonds."

Die Burger-Kersfonds is the newspaper's annual fundraising campaign and was created more than 50 years ago. Funds raised through the initiative are used for the upkeep of Die Burger-Strandhuis, a holiday resort for kids that organises educational trips for rural and underprivileged kids, and hosts an annual youth leadership conference in partnership with the Western Cape Education Department.

Cyclists that are interested in raising funds for the Kersfonds can visit Die Burger Cycle Tour's website and make a donation on the site.

How to enter

Visit www.dieburgercycletour.co.za and follow the easy instructions to enter online. Entries are limited to 5500 (92km) and 1000 (44km).

The shorter 44km route:Cyclists will follow the 92km route, over the Old Helshoogte Pass, through Pniel and down the R45.
The two routes will split at the R45 Simondium Road, where the 44km route will take a left towards the R44.
