Love the Lights and spread the love at Hyde Park Corner

Tis the season to be jolly – and there’s plenty of reason for cheer as Hyde Park Corner gets its festive season programme underway with its time-honoured tradition of a tree-lighting ceremony – which promises to be even more fabulous this year. Coinciding with the celebration of Hyde Park Corner’s ‘Fifty & Fabulous’ birthday, the Love the Lights spectacle on 6 November will be its most memorable ever.

The family-friendly event features kids entertainment, the show-stopping lighting of the tree, and will be headlined by Timothy Moloi and Adam Howard’s Joburg Big Band, performing all your favourite festive hits. Festivities in the Centre Court kick off at 17h30 on Wednesday 6 November, with the live performance starting at 18h00. There’s plenty to keep the kids entertained, with sing-alongs, dance routines, craft activities, and more. Early Christmas shopping is a must, with stores trading until 20h00 on the evening.

In the spirit of the season, visitors are invited to participate in Hyde Park Corner’s Love the Sounds initiative, by bringing their pre-loved musical instruments to be donated to the Music Enlightenment Project, a community-based NPO based in Braamfontein. The initiative was founded in 2009 with the aim of creating a world where the lives of children and communities are enriched and transformed through the experience, practice and performance of music. Their holistic approach involves creating successful futures for children by developing not only their skills as musicians but also their life skills through music education. Donations of musical instruments can be made at designated areas in Hyde Park Corner throughout November and December.
