Chew on this: What to eat while binge-watching SA’s favourite shows and movies

Submitted by: MyPressportal Team

Are you among the 61% of South Africans who have admitted to binge-watching their favourite series on a regular basis? Or, have you taken this even further with ‘binge-racing’ - watching full seasons of a series in less than 24 hours?

Uber Eats is the perfect companion for watching your favourite shows. Not only is it an easy way to get your preferred foods without having to miss crucial viewing minutes, it also allows you to immerse yourself even further in your series with foods and flavours that complement them.

With the Broadcast Research Council of South Africa (BRCSA) recently revealing South Africa’s most-watched shows, Uber Eats offers some suggestions on which of its partnering restaurants pair best with some of these, as well as with classic movies that South Africans love to watch over and over again.

Our Perfect Wedding

This celebration of love focuses on one South African couple each week as they take their journey to the altar (and checking along the way that every item on their wedding wish list is perfect). If in Cape Town, why not toast to the bride and groom with a beverage from Norman Goodfellows? Durbanites can clink their glasses filled with booze from Blue Bottle and Gautengers can do so with a drink from The Fridge.

Uzalo

Following the trials and tribulations of two families in the Kwa-Mashu township of KwaZulu-Natal, Uzalo is SA’s most-watched show with viewers tuning in every night to watch the Mdletshe and Xulu families’ tumultuous tales. With this being a lekker local show, it should of course be accompanied by SA flavours like biltong from BiltongBuddy in Cape Town, pap topped with Chakalaka and served with a steak from Homestead in Johannesburg or an ikaasi burger with tjips from Afro’s Chicken in Durban.

Grease

The ultimate movie for a great girls’ night in, Grease tells the story of greaser, Danny Zuko and Australian transfer student, Sandy Olsson who, after falling in love over the summer, are reunited at Rydell High School. With an all-star cast and songs that will have everyone singing along, this classic Rom Com is best enjoyed with milkshakes and burgers from McDonalds in Durbs, Junior in Cape Town and Mike’s Kitchen in Jozi.

Eat, Pray, Love

This always uplifting movie follows newly-divorced Elizabeth, who embarks on a journey around the world that ultimately enables her to find herself. With one of the stops on her  travels being India, why not get Uber Eats to deliver a  yummy curry from Kebabish in Durban, Dosa Hut in Jo’burg or Curry Club in Cape Town?

Lady and the Tramp

Loved since it was first released in 1955, this Disney film tells the sweet story of Lady, an upper-class Cocker Spaniel, who meets and, inadvertently, falls in love with a stray mongrel called the Tramp during their adventures. The ideal meal to accompany this classic is spaghetti and meatballs (served with a side of nostalgia) which can be easily ordered from Mimmos in Johannesburg, Mustacchio Caffe in Cape Town and Panarottis in Durban.

“The app has a wide variety of food to choose from for any series or movie binge session, with something for everyone to enjoy - regardless of what they watch. Plus, it’s so user friendly and easy to navigate, you won’t need to tear your eyes away too much from your screen. Best of all, you can order from the comfort of your couch,” says Uber Eats General Manager, Ailyssa Khan.

To show series binge-watchers and movie marathoners the array of options available when searching on the app by restaurant or cuisine type to accompany anything they watch, Uber Eats hosted movie nights in Cape Town. A select few lucky social media followers got to tuck into delicious food suited to the flick and rub shoulders with some SA celebs.
