LATEST VINYL NEWS

Fans still can’t get enough of the old-school black plastic, with a mix of both classic records and brand new releases on vinyl this year making an impact, as OfficialCharts.com reveals the biggest sellers of 2018 so far.

Heading up the vinyl countdown at this halfway stage if the year is the latest album from Arctic Monkeys, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. The group’s sixth straight Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart, which was the fastest-selling vinyl album of the last 25 years, is way ahead of its nearest rival, previous leader Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 classic Rumours, notching up 30,000 sales on vinyl. Read our 40th anniversary review of the album here. Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of Moon, first released in 1973, is at 3, while the chart behemoth that is The Greatest Showman makes an appearance as fourth biggest vinyl seller of 2018, and the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack, Awesome Mix 2, completes the Top 5, while its predecessor is at 9.

Elsewhere in the Top 40, vintage smashes like Nirvana’s Nevermind (6) and Oasis’s (What’s The Story) Morning Glory (8) rub shoulders with 2018 releases like George Ezra’s Staying at Tamara’s (7), Kylie Minogue’s Golden (14), and First Aid Kit’s Ruins at Number 17.

Other notable entries include two further Arctic Monkeys records: AM at 18 and Whatever People Say I Am That’s What I’m Not at 26, while two Smiths’ classics reissued in 2018 – The Queen is Dead and Hatful of Hollow sit at 35 and 36 respectively. And just sneaking in to the vinyl albums Top 40 of 2018 so far – it’s Taylor Swift’s Reputation.
