Hytec sponsors 5th container library for Mandela Libraries Project: Papong Primary School, Limpopo

As part of The Hytec Group’s commitment to education and social upliftment in South Africa, Hytec has partnered with the Mandela Libraries Project for the fifth time to supply a fully stocked and containerised library for the Papong Primary School in the Limpopo Province. Hytec gives back to the communities they operate in. By empowering the children of Burgersdorp, Limpopo and encouraging early learning literacy, this creates a strong vision of an educated nation.

Hytec’s R290 000 donation covered a 12x3 meter converted, insulated container with shelving, doors, windows and security. Hytec stocked the library with 2 500 books, 200 of which are early readers in the local languages of the province, chairs, floor mats and posters.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony on the 25th July 2018 was a strong community affair with the Head Master Mr Maroga of Papong Primary School, the school’s governing body, and principals from four other local schools attending. “As the schools in the area are so rural, they rely on each other for assistance and support - even in celebrations”, says Jackie Coutts, Director of Projects for Participate for Good NPC. Hytec local representatives Anita Douglas and Nick van Deventer, Hytec Regional Manager Ralph Palphramand, Mandela Bangle’s Robert Coutts and Hytec’s Mike Harrison helped to make the library hand-over programme an extraordinary celebration.

Mike Harrison, Hytec General Manager, commented that: ‘Education is a key pillar for success in Africa and Hytec is extremely proud to sponsor this library. By investing in local communities and specifically children we create a better future and broaden the horizons of young minds far beyond the local community.” He said that this container library means that local children are no longer just exposed to what they see locally – “now it can expand to what they read globally. It allows them to see the world in a more encouraging way.”

The library brings much needed hope, educational support and social upliftment to this rural school of 520 Primary School children. Papong Primary School is located in the Ga Malekane Village in Limpopo. The library handover ceremony was well attended by the local community as well as all the surrounding schools. Head Master, Mr Maroga committed to allowing all other schools access to the library’s resources.

“The school, and community, are so appreciative of Hytec’s effort and dedication to the Mandela Day Library initiative. We are all grateful to Mike Harrison and Hytec as a whole for their continued and committed support in supplying rural children with an ability to dream big, and to Robert Coutts for his vision and passion”, says Jackie Coutts.

Hytec is committed to uplifting the communities in which it operates and has previously sponsored similar libraries for Crown Mines Primary School (Johannesburg), Qoyintaba Primary School (KwaZulu-Natal), Mantshatlala Intermediate School (Free State) and Marikana Primary School (North West), as part of the Mandela Libraries Project.

The Long Walk to Freedom Mandela Day Libraries Project is funded by the Mandela Bangle programme and its partners. Its mandate is to promote early-learning literacy in underprivileged schools across South Africa. https://www.mandelabangle.com/
