Pretoria – Embracing the spirit of Ubuntu and in preparation for the winter season, South Africa’s leading construction materials company, AfriSam, is assisting young disadvantaged school children from Lindopark Primary School with school shoes and warm winter clothing. This is to equip the youngsters for the cold season ahead.

The community of Lindopark approached AfriSam’s Ferro aggregate operation, through its community forum, to assist learners in the local school. Betty Masinge, Enterprise and Social Development Manager at AfriSam says, ‘When we heard that there was a great need for new school shoes and winter clothing for the learners at Lindopark Primary School, we immediately decided to do something about it.

AfriSam donated school shoes and wind-proof jackets to over 50 boys and girls at Lindopark Primary School, which were handed over on Tuesday the 14th of May.

The Principal and the Parents encouraged the kids to stay in school and do their best to obtain education, which will open doors to their dreams and aspirations, and to not hesitate to ask for any assistance that will enhance their learning experience. “We hope that the learners are more than motivated and encouraged to continue learning, with the vision of a better future for themselves and their communities” a parent’s encouragement. AfriSam has an intensive community involvement programme that focuses on education.

The company is involved in various educational projects nationwide, with the aim of empowering and equipping communities with the necessary knowledge and skills, as well as providing them with the tools and facilities to become self-reliant and sustainable.

“AfriSam’s overall community upliftment mission is to understand the needs of society and communities in areas where we do business in order to make meaningful and sustainable contributions to their upliftment and long-term development,” Masinge concluded.
