Keeping health a priority this October!

Take this month to be cognisant of National Breast Cancer Awareness and the importance of breast health.

To champion this, The Local Choice Intersite Pharmacy at Springfield Retail Centre is proudly supporting breast cancer this October. They are offering Breast Light screenings by their professional Primary Health Care certified nurses on duty at a special rate of R200.

The Breast Light screening involves using harmless and yet extremely powerful LED lights to penetrate through the breast tissue delivering a translucent effect, allowing a clear view of the internal functioning of your breasts. The Breast Light device will give you a clearer idea if there are any abnormalities by showing them as a dark cluster. This device is not a replacement for a standard self-examination or as an alternative to a mammogram. But it can offer you instant and immediate reassurance to assist in the early detection of any breast abnormalities that may or may not be cancerous, during the period from having one mammogram to the next.

Another important visit is to your gynaecologist, at least once every two years, for a pap smear. This is yet another additional important measure that can make a big difference in one’s life! So, if you are in the vicinity of Springfield Retail Centre, make an appointment with The Local Choice Pharmacy and visit their onsite clinic to make this important appointment that will bring some light on your breast health.

October month also highlights World Sight Day, observed annually on the second Thursday of October.

This global driver draws attention to blindness and vision impairment. 1 billion people around the world have a preventable vision impairment or one that has yet to be addressed.

Reduced or absent eyesight can have major and long-lasting effects on all aspects of life, including daily personal activities, interacting with the community, school and work opportunities and the ability to access public services.

Reduced eyesight can be caused by several factors, including diseases like diabetes and trachoma, trauma to the eyes, or conditions such as refractive error, cataracts, age-related macular degeneration or glaucoma.

The majority of people with vision impairment are over the age of 50 years; however, vision loss can affect people of all ages.

So, while you are at Springfield Retail Centre, pop into Torga Optical to make an eye appointment.

If you are at Park Boulevard Shopping Centre, then your eye test can be done at Accuvision Optometrist.

Lastly, in solidarity of Breast Cancer Awareness month, pop into Sorbet at Granada Square and get your nails painted pink as a united front…it’s time to “Think Pink”! You will also receive a R50 Netflorist voucher.

Remember to practice all Covid-19 safety restrictions when visiting your nearest shopping centre when you make these appointments!
