SABC’s choir, wellness and education departments will start World Aids Day off at 09:00. SIDA Education has developed an educational tool about HIV/AIDS and other related diseases will provide facilitators for the day to educate employees in a game form. SIDA Education is extensively involved in the design of innovative games aimed at transferring knowledge.

“In light of the above we will host this World Aids Day as an awareness campaign and a tool to determine how much employees know about HIV and AIDS. The Department of Health will supply us with condoms and other exciting prizes and giveaways,” explains the SABC’s Sufoora Ebrahim from employee wellness.

“Helen Joseph employees will join the SABC activities at 12:00. We want to publicly demonstrate our support for those infected and affected by HIV and AIDS and strengthen relations between Helen Joseph and SABC employees,” says Ms Phasha, employee wellness coordinator at Helen Joseph Hospital.

The theme for World AIDS Day 2011 is 'Getting to Zero'. After 30 years of the global fight against HIV/AIDS, this year the global community has committed to focusing on achieving three targets: zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS-related deaths.

“Please join us on this important day; let’s lead by example, encourage people to take personal responsibility to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections by using condoms. Let’s all be tested and improve our knowledge by participating in the SIDA Education game. Every effort will help reduce the rate of infection and provide more care and support to people living with AIDS,” concludes Thembi Maseko, SABC Education’s outreach project manager.
