Schizophrenia does NOT mean multiple personalities
Submitted by: MyPressportal TeamAcross the globe, schizophrenia is a widely misunderstood disorder with many people mistaking it for Dissociative Personality Disorder (formerly known as multiple personality disorder).1
While they are both serious mental disorders that share certain symptoms, multiple personalities are not a symptom of schizophrenia.2
Both disorders are uncommon
While schizophrenia and Dissociative Personality Disorder are severe and often misunderstood, it’s important to remember that they aren’t very common. They each affect approximately 1% of the population and, should a person exhibit more than two of the primary symptoms described above, it is best to seek help from a healthcare professional and work on an effective treatment plan.3
