INFORMAL SETTLEMENTS IN THE GAUTENG PROVINCE FACE WINTER FAMINE

Mothers, fathers, children and babies living in the informal settlements of Malaatjie, Joe Slovo, Eerste Rust, Kwa Thema & Langaville in Springs and Tsakane in Brakpan were struggling to eat before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country. Now, without the help of better off near-by neighbours and surrounding communities they may not make it through the winter.

Food Secure Now, a non-profit organisation dedicated to a hunger-free South Africa, is pleading with those who are privileged to enjoy at least one meal per day, to offer a helping hand to those who are not. Says, Zoe Molapisi, one of the founding directors of Food Secure Now and also the owner of By Design Africa: “It requires no effort on your part as we are equipped to procure, transport and distribute goods to these locations. It is crucial that we assist these families in need.”

Your donation of just R299 per month buys basic food packages upon which the survival of someone close to you depends. You can sign up for 3, 6 or 12 months and, to prove your money is being well-spent, we’ll send you a photo of the grateful family you are helping to stay alive. Join Food Secure Now’s ‘Adopt-a-Family’ programme and make a difference to the lives of people to whom a simple meal means the world.
