Water crisis still looms - what you and Hansgrohe can do.

What can Hansgrohe do to curb your water usage? 

On September 2nd 2019, eNCA reported that the province of Gauteng could soon be facing a water crisis along the same lines as the Western Cape last year. Experts have said that water sharing may just become a reality, as the entire population draws water from the same Vaal River System.  In a new report, dated October 31st, eNCA reported that Harding, a small town in KwaZulu-Natal, is also experiencing massive water shortages; facing its own personal brand of Day Zero.  

A growing World needs growth planning 

Rising population numbers must be met with growth in infrastructure and sustainable planning for the future; a task which South Africa is often accused of failing at. In the Gauteng eNCA report, Mike Muller - adjunct professor at the University of Witwatersrand - had this to say on the Vaal River System: “The same amount of water has to be shared with a larger number of people and there’s only one way you can deal with that, people have to use less water.” 

Hansgrohe’s promise 

Today, the Hansgrohe Group is a company that is embracing change, growing organically and standing for sustainable added value. Words in action 

Not only are those some powerful words from a powerful person; but they can be justified against Hansgrohe’s actions one hundred times over. The company dropped water waste from 8.17mᶟ to 7.11mᶟ in a single calendar year. They also dropped their water consumption from 193 626mᶟ to 172 840mᶟ in the same year.  Take this quote from the Sustainability report: ”For the Hansgrohe Group, focusing on people has always been the starting point for all inventions and further developments. Human needs, desires and longings always challenge the company anew with the aim of contributing to a good life. To maintain the high quality of our actions and all innovations, we consider the entire value chain.” 

Products for the future 

And even better than their internal company policy, Hansgrohe have developed ranges of EcoSmart products which reduce water consumption and waste; as well as other products geared towards making Mother Nature that much safer.  “The responsible use of water is essential for the Hansgrohe Group. We are actively committed to reducing the consumption of water in the production of our products,” says the report. 

Some examples include the Croma, Metris and Talis ranges - all replete with EcoSmart technology. EcoSmart is an incredibly important innovation from Hansgrohe, as it reduces flow rates in products in order to save water… which saves energy… which saves money! In fact EcoSmart products consume up to 60% less water than conventional products, with a lower hot water consumption which adds to massive energy savings in the long run; and the lower CO2 emissions are better for the environment. Because the flow rate doesn’t change at different pressures, you still get the treat you deserve with aerated water that feels fantastic against the skin.  “Making encounters with water an experience every day — that’s why we develop trend setting solutions that combine form and function,” from the report.
