Solar Energy Terminology

Solar energy is a topic a lot of people are quite familiar with although very few people have a knowledge regarding the subject. How does solar power work? What are the products I will need? What is a gel battery and why do I need it? These questions are information that we feel the general public should know, it is information that can be used to successfully determine if solar is your next investment. Solar panels have been seen taking over more of the public’s roofs, but how does it work? And why must I put them on my roof? Invest Solar has the answers for you.

Solar panels are devices that convert light into electricity or heat. A solar panel is actually a collection of solar cells, which can be used to generate electricity through the photovoltaic effect. These cells are arranged in a grid-like pattern on the surface of solar panels. Another product that ties in with solar panels is an inverter, the inverter converts the variable direct current (DC) output of a photovoltaic solar panel into alternating current (AC) which can be fed into your home to operate your appliances. This is the process from the solar panels to your fridge looking to cool your food. A common product you may hear in the solar energy are gel batteries.

In a gel battery, the electrolyte does not flow like a normal liquid but more like jelly. These batteries are sturdy and low maintenance. It is also called deep-cycle batteries because it is able to charge in the few hours of intense sunlight and discharge throughout the evening and night. Electricity knowledge is obviously the way solar operates, In a series circuit, the components are connected from one end to another, forming a single path for current flow and the sum of the voltages consumed by every single resistance is equal to the source voltage. But in a parallel circuit, all components are connected across each other, forming exactly two sets of electrically common points and the sum of the currents running through each path is equal to the total current that flows from the source. These circuits are a bit different but are used to contribute to electricity knowledge.

Solar does not have to be fully understood but that’s why there are experts at Invest Solar to inform you and we wanted to give you a bit more of an understanding into the solar energy world.
