RS Components announces availability of three new series of advanced LEDs for wide range of lighting applications

Implementation of advanced SC5 Technology enables doubling of light output from even smaller device packages

Johannesburg, South Africa, 16 August, 2017 - RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the global distributor for engineers, has announced availability of three new series of second-generation LEDs from Cree that offer higher performance with greater efficiency and longer service life. The LEDs target design engineers and are suitable for a diverse range of lighting applications including spot, street, parking area, and both low- and high-bay lighting.

The new CXA2 family of COB (chip-on-board) LEDs, are multiple-die integrated arrays that deliver a high lumen output. Offering extended lifetimes of up to 60,000 hours, these LEDs deliver up to 33% higher efficiency and have the same range of packages as the previous generation of CXA devices, allowing a simple drop-in upgrade.

The new range is based on the company’s SC5 Technology™ platform, which delivers increased performance and enables the CXA2 LEDs to offer the same output from a smaller light emitting surface (LES) making the CXA2 COB LEDs suitable for applications including GU10s, downlights, outdoor lighting and high-bay lighting.

The XLamp XHP50.2 series of extreme high-power white LEDs deliver the highest lumen efficiency in their class. Based on Cree’s SC5 Technology platform, the second generation of XHP50 LEDs offers increased lumen output and lumens per Watt, while maintaining the same compact 5 x 5mm package at the original XHP50 LEDs.

This allows the rapid upgrade of existing XHP50 lighting projects as well as facilitating system cost and size reductions for new and innovative applications. The Xlamp XHP35 series of LEDs, offers extreme high-power LED performance in the 3.5mm XP footprint. Utilising Cree’s SC5 Technology the XHP35 LED provides high lumen density from a compact package with dimensions of 3.45 x 3.45mm. Available in high-density or high-intensity options, the XLamp XHP35 series has been application optimised to enable new low-cost designs.

All three new series of LEDs from Cree are now available from RS.
